Join Warther Tours April 21 – 23, 2017 as we kick-off the festivities for the upcoming 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby in May. Arriving in Louisville, Friday afternoon allows us the time to spend visiting museum row. Admission to ten original attractions at this location is included with your tour. With so much to see, there will be extra time tomorrow afternoon to continue this experience.
Saturday morning you’ll meet one of the jockeys and enjoy the backside of the racetrack during an exclusive railside breakfast in the Horsemen’s Track Kitchen. Learn about the historic Churchill Downs Racetrack on the walking tour and remember to take time to explore the Kentucky Derby Museum.
You’ll have time to relax on the riverfront and take in the spectacular air show later in the day. Bring your binoculars to get an upclose view of “when the thunder rolls” as the planes fly through the sky. Later that evening dine with us on an old-fashioned riverboat while watching one of the largest fireworks show in the country.
Our tour ends Sunday morning with a visit to the “Old Friends Thouroughbred Retirement Farms.” You’ll have the chance to see horses whose racing and breeding careers have come to an end. Several retired winners of the Derby, Preakness, Belmont Stakes, and Breeder’s Cup roam the grounds alongside rescued horses on the farm. As you take the guided walking tour, you’ll learn that every horse at the center has a story to tell.
