What you'll do

Join us as we explore both the American & Canadian sides of the 1000 islands, including Ottawa and the Finger Lakes. A group of more than 1,800 islands in the St. Lawrence River, the Islands was a fashionable retreat for the elite in the late 19th century. Today the area is a hub for outdoor activities and restful getaways, and it’s home to elaborate island mansions such as the German-style Boldt Castle on Heart Island and much more.

Day 1 - Arrival in the 1000 Islands

Upon entering the region you’ll be greeted by your step-on guide, Steve Adams. Steve will introduce you to the 1000 Islands and host your welcome dinner at our hotel in Alexandria Bay along the banks of the St. Lawrence. Dinner included.

Day 2 - Antique Boat Museum, Luncheon Cruise, Boldt Castle, and Kingston, Ontari

After breakfast at our hotel we visit the Antique Boat Museum and the charming riverside community of Clayton. We’ll return to Alexandria Bay for a two-hour luncheon cruise that takes us past islands on both sides of the U.S./Canada border and concludes with a self-guided visit to Boldt Castle on Heart Island. Upon returning to Alexandria Bay we’ll board our bus for the trip to historic Kingston, Ontario, crossing the border over the magnificent 1000 Islands Bridge. In Kingston we’ll check in to our hotel and you’ll have free time to find the dinner of your choosing at any of Kingston’s many fine restaurants and take an evening stroll in Kingston’s lively downtown. Breakfast and lunch included.

Day Three - Hop-on/Hop-off in Kingston and Dinner Cruise

After breakfast at our hotel you’ll have the day to spend in Kingston. The Kingston Hop-on/Hop-off Trolley (included) will introduce you to the city and allow you to spend as much time as you like at the attractions of your choice. Visit historic Fort Henry and learn about the lives of the soldiers and family members stationed there in the 1800s. While there spend some time visiting the many local artisans’ shops in the upper fort at Fort Henry. Take a tour of Canada’s oldest penitentiary, roam downtown for lunch, and spend some time at one of Kingston’s many museums. In the evening we’ll enjoy a 3-hour dinner cruise of the 1000 Islands, this time from the Canadian side. Breakfast and dinner included.

Day Four - Ottawa

After breakfast we’ll travel to Canada’s capital city, Ottawa. Arriving mid-morning, you’ll again be provided with a hop-on/hop-off ticket for Ottawa’s Gray Line Bus and have the day to explore Ottawa’s many historic and cultural offerings. Choose from among Ottawa’s majestic Parliament Hill, the engineering marvel of the Rideau Canal, any of the Ottawa’s seven national museums, or visit the stables of the RCMP. That evening we’ll enjoy dinner at our hotel, the stately Lord Elgin Hotel in downtown Ottawa. After dinner be sure to visit Byward Market, Ottawa’s nightlife quarter. Breakfast and dinner included.

Day Five - Good-bye Canada, Hello Finger Lakes

After breakfast it’s time to board the bus to begin the journey back to the United States. We’ll stop at the duty-free shop before crossing the border and traveling to Skaneateles, NY, where you’ll have time to find lunch in this idyllic lake-front community on the shore of Skaneateles Lake. After lunch we’ll travel to neighboring Auburn and tour the home of William H. Seward, the one-time New York Governor, Secretary of State to Abraham Lincoln, and engineer of our country’s purchase of Alaska. Following our tour of the Seward House we’ll check in to our hotel in Auburn and have a chance to rest a bit before going to the Springside Inn for dinner followed by an evening of live theater at Auburn’s Merry Go Round Playhouse. Breakfast and dinner included.

Day Six - A morning of flight, and the trip home

After breakfast at our hotel we’ll travel to Hammondsport for a visit to the Glenn H. Curtiss Aviation Museum.
