Depart New Philadelphia, OH for your Southern Autumn Adventure. Today is a travel day as we make our way to Rock Hill, SC where we will have a welcome dinner before checking into our hotel for the evening. (Dinner)
Day Two
Wake up for breakfast at the hotel before we depart for Savannah, Georgia. Savannah, GA is steeped in nostalgic remembrance of days gone by and eloquently displays exquisite ironwork, ancient cobblestones, splendid homes, and historic churches nestled among gorgeous park-like squares. Highlights of your tour include the 2.2 square miles of the Historic District’s rich history with its restored 18th and 19th century buildings and the picturesque waterfront where cotton warehouses are now restaurants, hotels, and shops. Enjoy this two-hour tour of Savannah from the comfort of your motor coach. Dinner tonight will be at the River House Seafood Restaurant on River St. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day Three
Breakfast will be provided at the hotel before departing for Jekyll Island. This morning you will have a tram tour that will whisk you around Jekyll Island and explain the history of Jekyll Island along with showcasing the famous people that had their vacation homes on the island. Lunch will be at the Jekyll Island Club which is one of Georgia’s premier ocean resorts. After lunch its back to Savannah where you will have free time for the rest of the day to explore on your own. (Breakfast, Lunch)
Day Four
Breakfast will be provided at the hotel before we begin our Atlantic Ocean Low Country tour. View outlying areas that showcase river inlets, marshes and tidal creeks as we travel to Savannah’s Beach at Tybee Island. Hear about the Fort Pulaski National Monument & Park, followed by a brief overview of the Island’s unique Coastal living style. Enjoy a drive-by view of Georgia’s oldest and tallest Lighthouse – guiding mariners from the Atlantic into the Savannah River for more than 270 years (tour of Lighthouse not included); and then stop & unload for a Lighthouse photo op and a beach walk to experience the Atlantic Ocean sand & water on your toes!
Lunch today will be at Paula Deen’s Creek House Seafood & Grille. They offer a wide variety of Southern classics and seafood favorites with a coastal, Savannah flair.
After lunch its off to Charleston. This afternoon we have a historic Charleston tour where you can take in one of the most beautiful and historic cities in the south. As you tour you will see the College of Charleston, Harleston Village, the Citadel, the Military College of South Carolina, and of course their famous Battery with its elegant town houses built by planters and merchants in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Tonight dinner will be on the Spirit of Carolina. Cruise Charleston’s beautiful harbor by moon light aboard the 100 foot luxury yacht. Enjoy the unique and beautiful sights of our harbor at sunset as well as a delicious dinner including entertainment from live and local musicians. Your 4 course dinner is made to order using fresh local ingredients and entree choices may be made at the table. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day Five
Breakfast will be available in the morning before we travel to the Charleston Tea Plantation. Its the only tea plantation in the United States. Over 100 years ago, tea planters brought their finest tea bushes from China, India, and Ceylon to South Carolina Lowcountry. Now the descendants of those very plants are growing strong at the nation’s only tea plantation nestled near Charleston. Included in the stop is an informative trolley tour of the grounds and tour of the Tea factory. A boxed lunch will be provided at the tea plantation followed by a photo op at Angel Oak.
This afternoon you will have free time at Old City Market before we begin our Historic Charleston walking tour. Stroll with your guide down lovely streets and lanes and view the marvelous architecture of homes built more than a century ago. Stop at the Nathaniel Russell House for a tour and enjoy a glass of wine as you learn about the Russell family and also about the enslaved Africans who were responsible for maintaining one of the the nation’s grandest antebellum townhouse.
We will stop at St. Michael’s Church before heading to dinner at the Crab House Restaurant. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Day Six
Breakfast will be provided at the hotel before leaving for Boone Hall Plantation. Grab your camera and journey across the Cooper River to visit “Americas most photographed plantation” Boone Hall. Built during the colonial period and still a working plantation to date, Boone Hall interprets the history of the families who owned the land as well as the many slaves who lived and worked there. Upon arrival at Boone Hall, you will be captivated by the aptly named “Avenue of Oaks”. These nearly 300 year old trees, which inspired settings in the iconic film “Gone with the Wind”, are sure to be a highlight of the tour. In addition to enjoying the scenery, interpret day to day life on a plantation while visiting Boone Hall’s nine original slave cabins and the Colonial Revival plantation house built on the site of the original plantation house in the 1930’s and lovingly furnished with 19th century period antiques. During your tour, your private guide will not only acquaint you with Boone Hall’s history from a 17th century colonial cotton plantation to a modern day working farm, but also show you the leading role that this spectacular landscape has played in Hollywood. Fans of films like North and South, Queen, and the Notebook will be in for a real treat!
Lunch will be on own at Old City Market before heading to Rock Hill, SC. Dinner will be on own tonight. (Breakfast)
Day Seven
