Travel today on deluxe motor coach from Columbus, Ohio for Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. Tonights dinner will be at the Appalachian Brewing Company. Located just outside historic Gettysburg, PA, this brewpub is a favorite among craft beer lovers in the local community and to the countless visitors who visit our region each year. Appalachian Brewing Company (ABC) restaurant and brewery proudly serves fine hand-crafted brews, craft sodas and exceptional fare in a warm and friendly setting. (Dinner)
Day Two: Wednesday, October 4, 2023
After our breakfast at the hotel we will visit the Gettysburg Visitor Center where we first tour Eisenhower’s Farm. This self-guided tour features the only property owned by our 34th President Dwight D. Eisenhower and First Lady Mamie. Upon returning to the visitor center we will then enjoy the Film, Cyclorama, and Museum Experience before our actual battlefield tour this afternoon. The museum is considered one of the best Civil War experiences in the country and here you will gain insight into the battle, stories and personalities of this “Great Battlefield”.
Lunch today is at the Dobbin House Tavern, Gettysburg oldest and most historic home
After lunch we meet our licensed guide for our 2-hr Battlefield Tour. Take your place on the battlefield and experience it beyond the history books and movies. Explore iconic landmarks such as the sites of the First Day, Little Roundtop, Devil’s Den, the Peach Orchard, the Wheatfield, Cemetery Hill, The Angle and Copse of Trees, Culp’s Hill. Understand what happened here and the impact the battle and its aftermath has on our lives today. Last we stop at the Friend to Friend Masonic Memorial. A Gettysburg Battlefield monument depicting the “Armistead-Bingham incident” after Pickett’s Charge in which Union Army Captain Henry H. Bingham assisted mortally wounded Confederate Brigadier General Lewis Addison Armistead, both Freemasons. Dinner tonight is at the Farnsworth House. The only Civil War period dining experience in Gettysburg. Period fare served by period dressed servers in historic inn with over 100 bullet holes in exterior south wall. Your day is not done yet, after dinner we enjoy a guided walking Ghost Tour where we walk alongside the ghosts of the battle and hear the gripping stories of the ghosts and hauntings of Gettysburg!
Day Three: Thursday, October 5, 2023
After breakfast we visit the Gettysburg Heritage Center Museum and witness the Battle of Gettysburg from two perspectives – the civilians who lived in Gettysburg and the soldiers who fought here. The stories are told through 3-D photographs, artifacts and interactive displays. Next we are off to the Gettysburg Lincoln Railroad Station where U.S. history was made and Journey back to 1863 in this new immersive virtual reality experience. After lunch and free time downtown we depart for wine tasting at the Adams County Winery. Enjoy the beautiful gardens and historic Tasting Room built in an 1860’s era bank barn. This evenings dinner features the Hickory Bridge Farm Restaurant with an historic barn that will wow you!
Day Four: Friday, October 6, 2023
After breakfast at the hotel we head for home with historic memories of Gettysburg!
