Pause at Multnomah Falls, Oregon’s tallest waterfall, as you make your way through the Columbia River Gorge and to your hotel for the next two nights.
Aviation and auto history is on full display at the Western Antique Aeroplane and Automobile Museum this morning. Historic planes and over 130 automobiles are on view in this popular museum. After an included lunch, travel to nearby Cascade Locks for a cruise on the Columbia Gorge Sternwheeler. Pass under the Bridge of the Gods and learn about Lewis and Clark, whose Corps of Discovery traveled along these same shores of the mighty Columbia River. Return to Hood River in the late afternoon with dinner tonight at the Columbia Gorge Hotel. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
Crossing the Columbia River into Washington, your destination today is one of awe as you explore Mt. St. Helens National Volcanic Monument. Travel the highway through the monument, pausing at several overlooks and visitor centers to get a full appreciation of the destruction that occurred on May 18, 1980 when the volcano erupted. Lunch is included as you continue your way north to Olympia with a stop at the Washington State Capitol. A little further north, Lynnwood is your home for the next two nights, just north of Seattle. Named for Chief Seattle, this city nestled along Puget Sound has much to share. Your local guide will take you through well-known neighborhoods and along the waterfront. Enjoy lunch at your leisure from any one of several restaurants along the waterfront, or simply grab a cup of clam chowder and take a stroll! In the afternoon, travel to the top of the famous Space Needle. Built for the World’s Fair in 1962, it remains Seattle’s most iconic sight. Drop into Dale Chihuly’s Garden of Glass at the base of the Space Needle and see the artist’s famous glass art installations, both inside and out! Pause at Pike Place Market and discover a plethora of local foods and wares before returning to your hotel for the evening. (Breakfast)
Here’s your chance to see wide-body jets being manufactured right before your eyes! Located in Everett, Boeing’s Future of Flight and Wide Body Jet Manufacturing Plant highlight the assembly of jets like the 747, 767, 777, and 787. The factory itself is the largest building in the world by volume. Nearby, discover the small community of Mukilteo, nestled along Puget Sound. Lunch is served along the water before continuing your journey to Bellingham where you will discover Spark, the Museum of Electrical Invention. It can be a shocking experience! A private dinner is hosted at the museum. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
After clearing Bellingham we will work our way south to explore the south-ern end of the San Juan archipelago. We chose our route today based on current wildlife reports and weather so be on the lookout for marine mam-mals and birds, while our captain gives an interesting and entertaining nar-ration about the history of the islands. We’ll quite possibly cruise past the historic Burrows Island lighthouse, as well as points of interest with names like Iceberg Point, Deadman’s Island, and Cattle Pass. Relax and unwind in your Friday Harbor Suites studios, with soothing décor, natural colors and com-fortable furnishings. This delightful harbor town is filled with good restau-rants, interesting shops and galleries, pubs, and home to the only museum devoted to Orca whales. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)
This morning sit back and enjoy a very scenic and interesting cruise east through the narrow passages and small islands on our way east to the mouth of the Swinomish Channel. This interesting narrow channel will lead us to the picturesque waterfront town of La Conner. Enjoy the new boardwalk that runs nearly the length of town and spend your time browsing unique shops, artist studios and gal-leries and bookstores, or stop in a local microbrewery for a cold one. A very popular Northwest destination, you’ll enjoy your time in this vibrant artist enclave.
We’ll now get underway heading south as we make our way through Hole In The Wall, a natural opening through the rock cliffs leading us to the rest of the Swinomish channel and to and through Decep-tion Pass, well-known for it’s swift tidal flow and stunning scenery. As we head for Deception Pass get ready for a San Juan Cruises tradition, you’ll enjoy an Old Fashioned Cracked Crab lunch. Feast on the North-west’s finest Dungeness Crab served with Baked Chicken, our signature Broccoli Salad, Harvest Vegetable Rice Pilaf, warm bread and decadent dessert.
While you’re enjoying lunch we go in search of Orca Whales, Humpback Whales, Minke Whales, Bald Eagles, Harbor Seals, Harbor Porpoise, sea birds and other magnificent wildlife. Viewed in their natural environment these magnificent animals are always a treat to behold! (Breakfast, Lunch)
Today we’ll have plenty of time to explore the more eastern San Juan Islands as we con-tinue search for the abundant wildlife of the San Juan Islands and see more of it’s incredible scenery as well as learning more about the interesting his-tory of the islands. Disembark in Port Townsend and travel south to Des Moines, where a final night dinner will have you recounting your favorite experiences during your visit to the Pacific Northwest.
