Depart from New Philadelphia, OH to the windy city….Chicago! Enjoy a vibrant piece of Chicago’s story at Harry Caray’s Italian Steakhouse River North, consistently voted one of the city’s top dining spots. Our legendary Chicago Cubs announcer was the king of Chicago nightlife “back in the day”. His welcoming hospitality lives on in the heart of River North. Our hotel tonight is the Hampton Inn Magnificent Mile. (Dinner)
Day Two
Enjoy a look at the “Windy City” as we tour Chicago with stops at Millennium Park, Wrigley Field, The Loop, Magnificent Mile, Navy Pier, & Chicago’s lakefront. Discover the history, architecture and incredible stories that make up Chicago! Later on in the day we experience a narrated architectural cruise on the Chicago River. Be amazed as you are transported through the Chicago River Locks into Lake Michigan for incredible views of the skyline. Dinner will be on own tonight with plenty of options to choose on the Magnificent Mile. (Breakfast)
Day Three
This morning we make our way north to Door County, Wisconsin which is often referred to as the “Cape Cod of the Midwest”. As we travel north we will pick up our Door County guide and make our first visit to the Eagle Bluff Lighthouse. Our stay for the next two nights will be a waterfront hotel called “Rowley’s Bay Resort”, and tonight we enjoy a traditional Door County Fish Boil here. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day Four
Today we visit Washington Island which is just off the coast of Door County. A geological marvel, this beach is like a dream. Instead of a sand beach, you’ll find a layer of limestone that have been here for hundreds of thousands of years. The rocks under the water have been smoothed out by centuries of wave action as well as glaciers that moved through the area and deposited them here millions of years ago. The rocks are so unique that a law was passed making it illegal to remove rocks from the beach. Only 5 beaches like this exist in the world. Protected in its little cove, this beach and its deep blue waters really feels like a secret discovery. Stops will include the Washington Island Farm Museum and the Stavkirke-Stave Church which looks it was moved there from medieval Norway. Lunch will be provided on the island before we make our way back inland to make a stop at Ephraim Lavender Shop. Dinner tonight will be on your own at the resort. (Breakfast, Lunch)
Day Five
Breakfast will be at a local favorite before we stop at a local farmer’s market and stop a school house for concert. Lunch will be on our own and then board the SS Badger which will take us across Lake Michigan to Ludington, Michigan. Relax and enjoy the journey and dinner will be provided for the group on the ferry. Tonight we will overnight at the Hampton Inn Muskegon. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day Six
This morning we will visit the famous Meijer Gardens, one of the nation’s premier horticultural display gardens and sculpture parks in Grand Rapids, Michigan. We have a tram tour scheduled for everyone that will wind you through pathways in comfort. Lunch will be on own at their cafe. This afternoon we will enjoy a jeep excursion on the sand dunes on the west coast of Michigan. Learn about the local wildlife and vegetation as they take you on an entertaining ride through the dunes. We finish our evening with a dinner and a tour at the Kellogg manor house which is the former estate of the Kellogg Company founder, W.K. Kellogg. (Breakfast, Dinner)
Day Seven
Breakfast will be provided at the hotel before we head home from our tour of the shores of Lake Michigan. (Breakfast)
