Your Itinerary

Day One

We start our adventure by traveling to Williamsport, PA and checking in at the Genetti Hotel, a beautifully preserved landmark with a welcoming atmosphere. Next, we embark on the Hiawatha Riverboat Cruise and enjoy a scenic river journey aboard an old-fashioned paddlewheel riverboat, surrounded by peaceful views and lush, rolling hills. After a delicious dinner at the hotel, we settle in for the evening. (Dinner)

Day Two

After a sumptuous breakfast at the hotel, we head out for Newburgh, NY, where we will enjoy lunch on our own at Alexis Diner, a retro-style spot serving hearty classics with a modern twist. Following lunch, we will take a two-hour, narrated cruise along the scenic Hudson River aboard the Pride of the Hudson, Newburgh surrounded by majestic cliffs and historic landmarks. We’ll end the day by checking in at the Doubletree by Hilton in Poughkeepsie, NY for dinner and a restful night’s sleep. (Breakfast, Dinner)

Day Three

Following a hot breakfast at the hotel, we meet our step-on guide for the day and travel to the Vanderbilt Mansion, Hyde Park, for a guided tour. This grand, Gilded Age mansion showcases opulent interiors and formal gardens overlooking the Hudson River. Lunch is at the retro-style, Eveready Diner in Hyde Park. After lunch, we’ll have a guided tour of Springwood, the boyhood home of Franklin D. Roosevelt and the only place in the United States where a President was born, kept lifelong ties, and lies buried. Next, we arrive at the FDR Presidential Library/Museum for a self-guided visit. Afterwards, our step-on guide will lead us on the Walkway over the Hudson, 212 feet above the river on the world’s longest elevated pedestrian bridge. No worries, you do not need to walk the whole length of the bridge. You can walk a short distance and enjoy breathtaking, unobstructed 360-degree views of the river and surrounding scenic valley. Dinner at a local restaurant and a good night’s sleep will prepare us for tomorrow’s journey. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day Four

Breakfast at the hotel is followed by a trip to the Culinary Institute of America for a CIA Experience. We will take a quick tour of the main building’s teaching area, meet with students, participate in a unique tasting exercise, and eat an incredible lunch. This afternoon, we visit Val-Kill, home of Eleanor Roosevelt. Here, Franklin and Eleanor entertained friends, the press, activists, and official state visitors in a relaxed atmosphere. Next stop is the Mills Mansion, in Staatsburg for a guided tour. Originally built in 1832 and greatly expanded in the 1890’s, the mansion is indicative of the great country estates built to house America’s wealthiest families. Dinner will be on your own this evening in the vibrant historic town of Rhinebeck. Choose from Rhinebeck’s wide range of cuisines, centered around their active farm-to-table movement. (Breakfast, Lunch)

Day Five

We begin the day with a hot breakfast at the hotel before checking out and traveling to the US Military Academy at West Point for a guided tour of the campus. We’ll learn the story of West Point and the U.S. Military Academy, from its founding in 1778 during the Revolutionary War to its present-day role as a leading institution for developing the nation’s future leaders. Next, we will enjoy a self-guided visit to the West Point Museum that houses the nation’s oldest and most comprehensive collection of military artifacts. Lunch is at the Thayer Hotel, which has been a national treasure since opening in 1926 and visited by past U.S. Presidents, international leaders and celebrities alike. A guided tour and tasting at Brotherhood Winery are next on the agenda. Experience the historic atmosphere of America’s oldest winery by taking a leisurely stroll through the vast network of underground cellars. Your guide will reveal the secrets of these mysterious vaults and keep you amused with tall tales of folly and tragedy.  We depart for Scranton, PA and check into the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel. Dinner is at Carmen’s 2.0 restaurant, located in the historic Grand Station Lobby of the hotel. Following dinner, you have the remainder of the evening free to relax or explore on your own. (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner)

Day Six

Wake up to a new day and a hearty breakfast at the hotel. We will travel home this morning with new friends and great memories of Hudson River Valley. (Breakfast)
