Your Itinerary

Day One

Your journey begins as we depart for Naples, Italy on our overnight transatlantic flight. Settle in and look forward to the scenery, cuisine, and culture of Southern Italy and Sicily.

 

Day Two

Arrive in Naples and travel along the Bay of Naples to beautiful Sorrento, perched above the sea with Mount Vesuvius across the water. After settling into your hotel, enjoy time to explore before gathering for a welcome dinner featuring local flavors and Southern Italian hospitality. (D)

Day Three

Spend the day exploring the spectacular Amalfi Coast with a local guide. Visit colorful Positano, historic Amalfi, and hilltop Ravello, known for its gardens and sweeping Mediterranean views. Back in Sorrento, roll up your sleeves for a hands-on cooking class and enjoy the meal you help prepare. (B,D)

Day Four

Leave Campania behind and travel deeper into Southern Italy. Pause in the seaside town of Maratea for lunch overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea before continuing into Calabria. Arrive in Tropea, dramatically situated atop cliffs above brilliant blue waters. (B,D)

 

Day Five

Explore Tropea’s historic old town with a local guide, including narrow lanes, faded palazzi, and the striking Sanctuary of Santa Maria dell’Isola overlooking the coast. Later, travel to Pizzo, a fishing village famous for tartufo, its legendary chocolate-centered ice cream dessert. Return to Tropea for the evening. (B)

Day Six

Travel to the toe of the Italian peninsula and board a ferry across the historic Strait of Messina. Welcome to Sicily! Continue to Taormina, one of the island’s most beautiful hilltop towns. After dinner, enjoy time to stroll Corso Umberto or relax at a terrace with Mount Etna in the distance. (B,D)

 

Day Seven

Discover Taormina with a local guide and visit its remarkable ancient Greek Theatre, where Mount Etna and the Mediterranean provide an unforgettable backdrop. Later, travel onto the slopes of Mount Etna for a visit to a local winery and a tasting of wines grown in the volcano’s rich black soil. (B,L)

Day Eight

Journey west through Sicily and into the Madonie Mountains during olive pressing season. Visit a working farm and mill, taste freshly pressed olive oil, and enjoy a rustic farm lunch featuring regional flavors. Time permitting, pause near picturesque Cefalù before continuing to the Palermo area. (B,L)

 

Day Nine

Experience Palermo through its food and local traditions with a guided tour of the lively Ballarò Market, sampling the sights and flavors of one of Sicily’s oldest markets. Later, travel into the hills to Monreale Cathedral, celebrated for its magnificent golden Byzantine mosaics and peaceful Benedictine cloister. (B)

Day Ten

Travel into Western Sicily to Segesta, where an exceptionally preserved Doric temple stands among rolling countryside. Continue to the mountaintop town of Erice for a Sicilian lunch and time to explore its cobbled streets, historic buildings, and panoramic views toward the coast. (B,L)

Day Eleven

Journey south to Agrigento and explore the extraordinary Valley of the Temples, one of the finest collections of ancient Greek ruins outside Greece. Walk among monumental temples that have stood for more than two thousand years before returning to Palermo for a farewell dinner celebrating your journey. (B,D)

Day Twelve

Enjoy a final breakfast before transferring to Palermo Airport for your flight home. Return with memories of coastal villages, ancient temples, volcanic vineyards, lively markets, and the unforgettable flavors of Southern Italy and Sicily. (B)
